How to Apply Application Procedure

Application Information

United Education International School will be accepting application in August 2021 for the following academic year beginning in August 2022. It is recommended that parents of the applicant contact the UEIS Admissions Review Committee (International Liaison Office) to schedule an orientation for the prospective students (Freshman Consultation Line: 0800-820-000).
Application information for fall 2022 semester:
* UEIS is approved by the Yilan County Government Education Department to offer a U.S. based curriculum from G7-G12, with a total of 6 grades and a 90 student’s capacity (the average number of students per grade is about 15).
*With regards to the academic year beginning in 2022 there are currently 13 available positions for G7 and 8 available positions from G8 to G11 respectively. Please note G12 transfer students will not be accepted. Applications for prospective students will open in August 2021. With only 45 positions available, it is common that internal matriculation students outnumber applicants.
*UEIS shares the same academic system with U.S. education system.

Application Process

  1. Pick up an application form from the Admissions Review Committee (UEIS International Liaison Office) and fill out the information (the orientation is available for application on site).
  2. Submit application form, physical and mental health and moral evaluation form, independent living assessment form, parental education interview form, and family interview by the committee. (Please wear formal attire and have the student attend with at least one parent.)
  3. English admission assessments.
  4. The applicant will be notified of the application fee (NT$15,000) after the application has been accepted.
  5. The official letter of acceptance and tuition fee notification will be sent in March.
  6. Registration and payment of tuition and accommodation fees are in April.
  7. Students submit their graduation certificates, transcripts and other registration documents upon arrival in July.
  8. Summer orientation program begins in August.
  9. Semester begins in August after moving into the dormitory.

Admission Requirements

  1. Applicant for G7:
    • Sixth grader of a public or private elementary school in Taiwan
    • School score: 85 points or above in English and math
  2. Applicant for G8:
    • Seventh grader of a public or private junior high school in Taiwan
    • School score: 80 points or above in English and math
    • Grade A or above in moral education for junior high school graduation (without punishment warnings or above)
  3. Applicant for G9:
    • Eighth grader of a public or private junior high school in Taiwan
    • School score: 80 points and above in English and math
    • Grade A and above in moral education for junior high school graduation (without punishment warnings or above)
  4. Transfer Applicant for G10:
    • Ninth grader of an international class in a public or private junior school in Taiwan
    • School score: 80 points or above in English and math
    • Grade A or above in moral education for junior high school graduation (without punishment warnings or above)
  5. Transfer Applicant for G11:
    • First grader of an international class in a public or private senior high school in Taiwan
    • School score: 80 points or above in English and math
    • Passed the UEIS Admission English Placement Test and met the standard
    • Grade A or above in moral education for junior high school graduation (without punishment warnings or above)
The Admissions Review Committee will consider a student's past behavioral record, followed by English and mathematics proficiency as well as school performance as references when evaluating a student's application for admission.

Scholarship

UEIS will award a scholarship of NT$100,000 to the top of the class of Elementary graduates who applied to UEIS for admission to the G7 program.
UEIS will award a scholarship of NT$1,000,000 to a UEIS graduate who is accepted by one of the top 30 universities in the world.

Priority System

  1. There are about 30 vacancies every year for the Priority System (applicants meeting the standard will be admitted with priority) and 5 vacancies for transfer students. Early applications will be reviewed first, and applications will be closed once the vacancies are filled. Applicants should bring the following certification to the family interview for priority admission. (The priority system is designed for applicants with outstanding academic performance or special talent in addition to the required qualifications.)

    Applicants with certification meeting the requirements of the UEIS Admission Committee will be admitted with priority.
    The admission standards are as follows:

    1 GEPT Intermediate
    2 Cambridge Main Suite PET
    3 TOEIC 550
    4 TOEFL ITP/iBT 480/60
    5 IELTS 5.0 and above
  2. Applicants with award-winning certification from international, county or city competitions will be admitted with priority.
  3. Based on the transcripts of the four semesters from the first to second grade of junior high school (including: subject scores, daily life performance, homeroom teacher’s comments, award and punishment record, cadre and teaching assistant record), applicants with outstanding moral and academic performance will be admitted with priority. Early applicants will be reviewed first. The admission vacancies are limited in number.
  4. Applicants with a self-made learning portfolio as proof of various learning contents will be admitted with priority.
  5. The younger brothers and sisters of UEIS alumni and outstanding students recommended by graduates and students’ parents will be admitted with priority.
  6. Applicants with reference letters from teachers or trusted persons in academia will be admitted with priority.
  7. Applicants with a certificate of completion from the UEIS winter and summer camps for outstanding performance during the training will be admitted with priority.

Acceptance

If an applicant is eligible and has a place after passing both the admissions test and the comprehensive family interview, a official letter of acceptance and a registration notice will be sent to the applicant in both electronic and written form.

Waitlist

When there is no space available, qualified applicants will be placed on a waiting list for that grade level. There is a limit of five for transfer students per semester.

Refusal

  1. Students will be denied applications based on poor character or behavioral records, language proficiency not meeting the standards of the grade level to which they are applying to, or if our resources are not available to meet the specific needs of the applicant.
  2. Applications will be denied if the applicant's attitude, dress code, values or information is incorrect during the family interview.

Documentation

Accepted applicants are required to submit the following documents on the arrival in July each year to confirm their enrollment:
  1. The original certificate of graduation from junior high school or elementary school or certificate of transfer
  2. A photocopy of the information page of the applicant’s passport
  3. The household registration within 3 months
  4. The English version of transcripts in junior high school
  5. 8 photos of 2-inch headshots
  6. The headshot electronic file
  7. The transcript of Comprehensive Assessment Program of Junior High School Students
  8. A photocopy of the front and back of the identity card
  9. The student’s stamp
